Meet David F. Bruni, MD

David F. Bruni, MD is an orthopedic surgeon with a specialization in sports medicine & shoulder reconstructive surgery. Born in Laredo, Texas, he graduated from John B. Alexander High School and went on to graduate from Boston University with degrees in biology and economics. He then went on to complete a post-graduate program in biochemistry at the University of Texas at San Antonio before matriculating into medical school at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. 


Dr. Bruni then underwent his orthopedic surgery residency training at the University of Texas at Austin - Dell Medical School where he served as chief resident at Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas and Dell Children’s Medical Center, the two level one trauma centers in Austin, Texas. He then completed a fellowship in sports medicine & shoulder surgery at Brown University - Alpert School of Medicine in Providence, Rhode Island. 

Through his sports medicine training, Dr. Bruni has helped provide care for the University of Texas Longhorns Athletics, Austin Bold soccer team, Brown University Athletics, University of Rhode Island Athletics, and the Providence Bruins. Dr. Bruni has published multiple peer-reviewed journal articles, authored several text-book chapters, and presented on podiums at both national and international conferences on both the non-operative and operative care of musculoskeletal injury. He has also served as an instructor for courses in arthroscopy and sports medicine surgery, helping teach the new generation of orthopedic specialists.


A passion of Dr. Bruni has long-been the efficient delivery of healthcare to medically underserved patient populations. Dr. Bruni has participated in numerous medical mission trips to locations such as Cuernavaca, Mexico and Tegucigalpa, Honduras. His current research focus is investigating how to optimize musculoskeletal healthcare delivery and patient outcomes in medically underserved communities.


Dr. Bruni is involved in multiple professional societies including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, the American Association of Latino Orthopedic Surgeons, and was selected to the Emerging Leaders of the American Orthopedic Association.
